About the Project

Avant successfully completed the adaptive reuse and historical renovation of the Porter House Mansion, originally constructed in 1908 as a private residence. The comprehensive interior build-out transformed the historic property into a multifunctional space featuring upscale office areas and space for a future fine-dining restaurant and retail. The project required adherence to strict historical preservation guidelines to maintain the building’s architectural integrity while seamlessly incorporating modern amenities and ensuring ADA compliance. Challenges included upgrading the infrastructure to support its new uses while preserving key historical elements, such as original woodwork, masonry, and other period features. Avant’s scope of work also included integrating contemporary systems for HVAC, electrical, and plumbing to meet current standards. Financial support for the project was provided through the DPRP (Downtown Preservation and Revitalization Program), underscoring the significance of revitalizing the property for modern use.

Unique Elements

From preserving hand-carved woodwork to navigating complex ADA compliance, the transformation of Porter House Mansion showcases the thoughtful reinvention of a historic landmark into a vibrant, multipurpose destination. This project required intentionality and precision to upgrade the building’s systems without compromising its original character, in order to blend early 20th-century craftsmanship with 21st-century functionality.
