About the Project
As the General Contractor for the adaptive reuse renovation of the historic Jones Bros. Furniture Co. building, Avant has been deeply involved in preconstruction and design services, including budget development, scope development, and bid leveling to ensure the project’s success. This 37,300 square-foot, seven-story building, originally founded in 1902, will be transformed into 29 one-bedroom and studio apartments, featuring service spaces, a wellness center, a dog washing station, and ground-floor retail. The project will also enhance connectivity with the Emerald Trail.

Unique Elements
Known for its Mediterranean Revival detailing, prism glass, wrought-iron balconies, and decorative staircase, the downtown building holds significant historical value as it was established after the Great Fire of 1901. Preserving these architectural elements while adapting the building for modern use has been a key focus of Avant’s efforts. The project is the recipient of a loan package from the Downtown Investment Authority (DIA) for historic preservation, including a Historic Preservation, Restoration, and Rehabilitation Loan and a Code Compliance Forgivable Loan. Part of Avant’s role throughout construction is to help ensure all public incentive requirements are met and the construction is in compliance with any COJ or DIA approvals.
